‘Birth Glory’ was painted using an ‘automatic’ technique to express my memories and feelings of childbirth in 1974 and 1975. Inspired by feminist art, it is an autobiographical work, painted in an abstract expressionist language, using colour, pattern and symbols. The first painting in the series ‘Spirit of Sexuality’, it gave me the confidence to create many more paintings on this theme. It was exhibited at the ‘Art of Birth’ show at Brixton Art Gallery in 1990.
